ISPI, founded in 1962, is the leading international association dedicated to improving productivity and performance in the workplace. ISPI represents more than 10,000 international and chapter members throughout the United States, Canada, and 40 other countries. ISPI's mission is to develop and recognize the proficiency of our members and advocate the use of Human Performance Technology. Assembling an Annual Conference & Expo and other educational events like the Institute, publishing books and periodicals, and supporting research are some of the ways ISPI works toward achieving this mission.
Most of the performance-based training pathfinders were most active in this organization over the years.
Of the two organizations, I prefer ISPI.
American Society for Training and Development (ASTD)
WEBSITE: http://www.td.org/ Old: http://www.astd.org/
ASTD is made up of trainers of many industries and of many conflicting theoretical persuasions. The society's interest in technical training is limited, even though ASTD used to publish a magazine and host a conference targeted to technical trainers. This was discontinued sometime during the mid 90s.
The society hosts two conferences: The national convention and the Techknowledge Conference which is focused on e-learning.
On the whole, the organization is larger than ISPI and is more active in terms of conferences.
During 2014-2015, the organization decided to change its name to the Association for Talent Development (ATD).
